Restaurants that specialize in serving steaks have developed somewhat of a following over the years. People will travel for miles just to experience the memorable steak dinner that a certain steakhouse is serving.

While Texas and New York have some delicious steak dinners, Idaho also has several steakhouses that serve up a fantastic meal. Here’s a look at the top four steakhouses in Idaho.

Chandlers Steakhouse – Boise, Idaho

Located right in downtown Boise, Chandlers Steakhouse is known for serving some of the best steaks in the city. Chandlers Steakhouse is famous for serving prime corn-fed steaks, high quality Kobe Beef. All dinners come with side dishes made from ingredients local to the state of Idaho.

Wolf Lodge Steakhouse – Coeur D’Alene, Idaho

The Wolf Lodge is known for serving up some of the state’s best prime rib dinners, as well as a number of traditional steaks. Besides the great tasting steaks, the main attraction at The Wolf Lodge is the open grill where guests can watch their steaks being cooked right in front of their eyes.

The Copa – Hayden, Idaho

For a restaurant with a small town atmosphere, consider dining at The Copa. The Copa serves traditional prime rib eye and sirloin steaks in a restaurant that is built to encourage community development and allow you to sit back and relax a little.

Cool Hand Luke’s Steakhouse & Saloon – Boise, Idaho

Cool Hand Luke’s Steakhouse & Saloon is a little of everything from country saloon to traditional steakhouse. With great views of the city of Boise, this is one steakhouse you can’t miss on your trip to Idaho.

A crime is something which has been done against a set of rules that have been strictly observed in a society. The meaning and the implication of a crime can vary from one place to another. In fact different places tend to perceive crime in a different manner. Something which is offensive or insulting in one place may be accepted or tolerated in another.

There are mainly three types of crimes, or rather crime can be classified into three types. These are property crime, public order crime and violent crime. All three would be clear to you when examples are given, but the name themselves suggest what each type of crime is all about. The types of crimes can get interlinked as well.

The property crime involves the taking or damaging of other’s property. The burglary, theft, shoplifting and so on comes under this category. Note that robbery is not mentioned here as it is a crime that can go violent. This type of property may also involve the taking somebody else’s money or property. A property implies to anything that belongs to others.

The public order crime is something which can be thought of as a crime without any intended victim. This is because a public order crime is something which can be thought of as one which is intended to make oneself grow in the society while ignoring others’ plights. It can also be thought as an ethical suicide in some cases though most of the crimes are a sort of ethical crimes.

Prevention is better than cure. Shoplifting can be avoided at retail outlets all together. People tend to shoplift for a variety of reasons. Some might be doing it for the first time, and some for the nth time. Whatever the reason, shops should not give anyone any chance of shoplifting. A foolproof security system will ensure that there is all round safety at all times.

You need to arrange the way your shop is. Make lots of space viewable. There should not be any hidden parts in the shop. Most shop area should be visible from anywhere. You can use mirrors on the walls. Mirrors are an easy way of monitoring someone’s activity without directly looking at that person. But mirrors sometimes do compromise shopping privacy.

Make all expensive items to be placed deeper into the store. By doing this you will not give shoplifters an easy pick-and-run option. Shoplifters will have to get out from within the shop to the outside, which could let staff get more time to deal with them.
Shoplifters often wander aimlessly in shops. You can easily understand that they do not have any purpose of buying a specific item. But this does not mean that anyone who drifts aimlessly in a shop could be a shoplifter. Some of them might be just checking out the wares in the shop.

Another way is to find people who wear fluffy coats, when the weather is hot. Fluffy coats can be used to smuggle items out of the shop. Watch this person’s movement. A better option would be to request the person to leave the coat at the reception.

Cradled on the western curl of Idaho where plains and mountains meet is Boise. This massive city (which ranks among the Midwest’s most populated areas and features 64 square miles of easy conveniences) is famed throughout the country for its unique appeal. Defying the misconceptions of the state, it challenges visitors with an endless collection of attractions and downtown thrills. Its modern style is surpassed only by its natural beauty; and the result is one of a kind.

There can be no surprise therefore that settled within Boise is an urban oasis the Idaho Botanical Garden.

Those craving the diversity of the Midwest (with moving quotes helping to prove how easy it is to relocate there) are urged to visit the Idaho Botanical Garden. This stunning area spans 50 acres and boasts some of the states best views. Established in 1984, it began as a way to save land that had been abandoned, left to grow idly. It was claimed by a non-profit organization and was carefully cultivated, with gardens shaped in the wake of the weeds.

Guests can now explore 10 distinct areas within this attraction, many of which are unique. The Native Plant Garden proudly displays blooms of the state (like sagebrush and dogwood). The Meditation Garden offers a sense of history, with its original trees planted by inmates of the infamous Boise Penitentiary. And the English Garden is an unexpected delight, providing European flowers to enjoy. It is a sensory experience.

The Idaho Botanical Garden is one of the city and the state’s best attractions. New residents are urged to seek it out.

The global temperature has risen significantly in the past century. The sea level (around the world) rose more than half a foot in a century. In the last ten years, though, it’s risen more than a foot.

The oceans are also getting warmer. Ice in Greenland and Antarctica is melting. The Arctic sea is not as thick or as broad. The ocean has significantly more acid than it used to, due to increase in the carbon dioxide.

Also, if you watch the news, you’ve probably noticed a number of extreme weather events, such as flooding, hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, heat waves and so on. Evidence suggests that these changes are related to global warming. While this has not been directly proved, many experts agree.

In a nutshell: yes, global warming is real. There is not denying that global temperatures have increased. However, some people still argue that climate change is not that serious, or that it’s not man-made.

Most scientists agree that the main cause of global warming is carbon dioxide, which is man-made. However, some people don’t believe that’s true. Some people believe that global warming is a natural change in the earth. Others say that the measurements are inaccurate. Another debate concerns the long term consequences of climate change and the future.

The scientific opinion on climate change, though, is that humans have caused global warming. According to some polls, only half of the American population believes that humans have anything to do with global warming though. A little odd, isn’t it? Still, there are obviously a lot of different opinions regarding this controversial subject.

“My son sleeps with Benton’s watch in his hands”. “My daughter won’t have food until she sees Mr. Bean”. You may have come across such (proud) comments or complaints of some mothers. Cartoons are definitely a part of entertainment. But addiction to cartoon is not at all a good thing. The over addiction to such super heroes affect children in many ways.

According to psychologist, a 12 year old child should have sensible thoughts. But, it is found that in children who are addicted to such super heroes will have a low rate of sensible thinking. He will be after the superhuman qualities of the super hero and may try to imitate him. Using the dressing pattern and accessories may later turn to empathy.

Slowly the personality of the super hero starts masking child’s own personality. This may lead to the development of attacking habits, rebel nature and dangerously adventurous nature. Watching cartoons just for the sake of entertainment is definitely not dangerous. Problem lies in addiction to these characters. Children who regularly interact with these electronic characters may be shy when they interact with other persons. Some children will not be satisfied with the small episode of cartoon in the TV channels. They may try to download the cartoon from internet. This will affect them physically and mentally.

Lack of proper exercise will make them unhealthy and obese. It is not that all the children who watch cartoons develop these problems. Usually children like fast moving scenes. Parents can prevent this to a greater extant. A fixed span of time should be allotted to see cartoons. Don’t allow the child to see cartoons for long time for his betterment.

Climatic changes, Global Warming and Green House Effect are some issues in live discussion all over the world. It is found that the temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere is continuously increasing. This is expected to cause serious natural calamities. The first thing to attract the attention of nature scientists was Ozone depletion. Ozone depletion is a phenomenon in which the Ozone layer in the atmosphere undergoes photo dissociation due to the activity of some chemical compounds such as Chlorofluorocarbons and Bromofluorocarbons. The Ozone protects our planet from the harmful effect of Infra Red radiation. Green House Effect is another phenomenon by which the lower atmosphere is kept warm.

This is done by the activity of atmospheric components like water vapor, methane, carbon dioxide and ozone. The combined effect of global warming has a mean warming of 33 degree centigrade. The increase in the global temperature is due to human activity. Combustion of fossil fuels and deforestation are the major cause of global warming. The after effect of global warming is catastrophic. The increased temperature will cause melting of polar glaciers and icebergs will rise the sea level this will cause the destruction of coastal areas. Large areas of terrestrial land will be swallowed by ocean.

The average temperature of the sea water will also change this will affect the aquatic animals and marine eco system. The coral reefs and mangroves will get affected. The major terrestrial ecosystems will also get affected by the increased level of carbon dioxide. The animal and ranges will be shifted poleward and upward. Many species of animals and plants will extinct due to changes in temperatures. Human population also will get affected by global warming.

Cinema is the most popular tool of entertainment. It has become an integral part of our life and also the biggest industry of the world. Almost all the countries around the world have developed film industries in their regional languages. Cinema is also used to propagate some ideas. The popularity of the industry among the people had given some social responsibility to cinema. Film makers have the responsibility to prevent the propagation of bad ideas among people. Film actors are the most influential celebrities all over the world. It is the most paid job.

It gives employment to millions of people. In early centuries, plays were the popular among the people. There were many viewers for plays. They were performed in a theatre. Popularity of the famous play Wright William Shakespeare shows the importance of plays in ancient world. Gradually the world moved on technology and captured the first moving film. It was done by Louis Le Prince. It was devoid of sound. The first silent, black and white science fiction film was “A Trip to the Moon”. Then we moved on to black and white films with dialogues. Introduction of colour films was another milestone. Animation is another popular trend in world cinema. Animation is an unavoidable part of science fiction films.

The film may be either full of animated characters or they may get along with human characters. A film is an end product of several associated processes. The combined effort of director, actors, cinematographer, light boys, sound engineers, editors, producer, distributor and so completes a cinema. Technological innovations like home theaters LCD and plasma screens increase the demand for high definition picture and sound.

The word “Criminal” was only applicable to men once. Lady criminals were out of imagination. But the fact is that the number of lady criminals is not very low and it is increasing too. It is a fact that all the crime that a man does can be done by a lady also. The only exception is rape. There are 14 different types of stimulus in human beings. It is present in animals also. But in humans, it is covered with a beautiful cover of culture and beliefs. But it comes out when something stimulates it. There are criminal minded ladies in all sectors of society. It is also observed as a joint venture of both man and woman.

Although ladies have a powerful mind, they are not as physically strong as men. This is the limiting factor. In criminal groups were ladies are involved, they will be the planning part while men will be the executing part. The criminal tendency in ladies may be formed in their childhood itself. It will only be expressed in a favorable situation. Some may have criminal tendency by birth. Men are dominated by brain while women are dominated by heart. They commit crime and will be caught easily in most of the cases. The most important enemy of a lady is the thought that she is living in a male dominated society.

Some ladies use their body for the gratification of their professional ambition. They use others for the fulfillment of their ambition. These relationships may end up in another crime. In many of the cases were ladies are culprits, the reasons were extra marital affairs, possessiveness or loss of love.

There was a time during the olden days when getting weather reports and forecasts was one hell of a job. We had to wait patiently for the evening weather bulletin to understand about the weather prospects for the next 24 hours. But all this has changed with times and modern technology has made weather reporting more accurate and in more in tune with the needs of the ends users. The availability of 24-hours new cycles and cable televisions has brought weather forecasting to the doorsteps of the end users. The development of internet and other modes of communication like hi-fi have made it possible
Sitting in front of the computer you can get live and real time weather reports by the minute. All this is possible because of newer and more advanced technologies. Having a smart phone makes it possible for you to be on the move and yet get regular real time updates about temperature, wind speed, humidity and other details. The people who still believe that getting weather updates means waiting for hours together till the evening news are living in a world which has gone by. They should wake up to today’s realities and get themselves updated and use the benefit of internet and other modern technology to their advantage.

One more advantage is that the modern day technology like internet and smart phones are not that expensive and can be afforded easily by even people belonging to the lower middle class society. So if you are a believer of technology and would like to make the best use of it for the purpose of getting updated on weather, you are sure to change the way you sought weather information. Over a period of time, the importance of periodical TV and radio weather bulletins will come down and be replaced by more modern technologies.

Crime in the urban areas is always on the increase and authorities are baffled in fighting this menace. Whenever there is an onslaught on crime in a particular area, automatically you have it sprouting its ugly head in some other area. While all of us know that crime is an unlawful act and deserves punishment, reactive measures alone will not stop crime rates from going up in urban areas. We as a society need to sit back and think to find out ways and means to prevent crime from assuming serious proportions. Crimes can be broadly classified under four segments, viz. economic, sociological, psychological and biological crimes. Each one has its own relevance and why people become criminals in any one of the above categories is worth being found out.

Economic crimes are basically born out of economic depravation of an individual. There are thousands of families where children have been deprived of the basic economic necessities which makes them feel frustrated and builds a sense of negativity. When they grow up they would like to have whatever they have been deprived of in their childhood and hence they start look at unlawful means to possess what they have been deprived of. Psychological crimes are again born mostly out of disturbed childhood where the child may have been subjected to a lot of mental trauma and shock.

This over a period of time converts the child to become hard and dark inside without any feeling of compassion or remorse. These are dangerous people and really could be a big problem for society. Sociological crimes are committed because of the prevalence of two societies in an urban setup. When he sees his neighbor grow up in life with all the good things, and if he is unable to do it, he becomes cynical looks at other dubious means to achieve material success.

Entertainment industry is the biggest money spinner in today’s world of information and technology and in fact it is much bigger than many other core industries such as agriculture, mining, etc. Why is entertainment such a big industry in terms of money and material growth? This is because people of today, especially the youth are more attracted and interested in films, songs, music, pornography and other such temporary means of entertainment. In fact there was a saying by Pluto which is very relevant in today’s entertainment industry and it says

“Those who tell stories rule the society”. So entertainment industry is all about stories, gossips, affairs, divorces and what not. While it generates huge sums of money and perhaps even employs lot of people, in a majority of the cases it spreads negativity and bad elements amongst the society, especially young teenage population. In fact, how badly does entertainment industry affect the perceptions about a country and its people can be gauged from the general opinion that people have about USA as a country. It is shown to the outside world by the entertainment industry to be a nation of jealous people who are all bothered about making money and indulging in acts of immorality like infidelity, pornography and child sex.

In fact it is also widely believed amongst a wide section of the population outside USA, especially in Asian countries that every household in America has a divorce to show. This is far from reality and all this negative image is being spread around thanks to entertainment industry. While entertainment industry cannot be wished away just because it is not living up to the expectation of a section of people, a lot can be done to manage perceptions better. It should come out and participate more aggressively in spreading a more positive image about the entertainment industry.

When we look back at history some 60 to 70 years, the process of reporting news was indeed very primitive and cumbersome. Getting to know of happenings around the world was indeed tough and we had to depend only on the print media and radio for getting our daily dose of information pertaining to happenings around the world. Even when it came to news gathering through the radio, the news was never live and was old in terms of content and relevance. Further the news content was generally restricted to local and national happenings. International or regional news were difficult to come by and if all I came through it required time for it to reach the listener.

The arrival of television was the first major step in redefining the way news was produced, presented and received. In the initial stages of television as a medium of information, the same problems of time and distances were encountered but with the development of telecommunications things have radically changed. Today sitting is a remote corner of the world we can get to know about the happening around the world. Be it sports, business, politics or natural disasters, no news remains hidden today even it is under the control of some iron curtains.

The development of internet and satellites have only added new dimensions to the way news are being reported today. All these have changed life for the better and made people of the world much more informed and awake in terms of knowledge and happening. All this has a flip side too. If anything untoward or unforeseen happens anywhere around the world and if it affects a section of the population outside the scene of happening, things tend to go out of control and take a nasty shape because of the speed with which information of news travels from one place to another place.

Media and crime have always had a very intriguing and interesting relationship over centuries. In today’s world of tension, greed, jealousy and selfishness, it is impossible to tune in to radio or television without any news on crime. Reporting crime has become a fashion with many news channels because it serves their business purposes that much better and also increases the viewer ship of such channels. While reporting crime is a part of the natural and expected duty of any good channel, what should be avoided is exaggeration and a tendency to make economic gain out of an incident which could be tragedy to some person or a group of persons.

There are many news channels and newspapers who have specially trained persons working exclusively for reporting crime related incidents and they are called as crime reporters. Switching on the TV today will obviously see you coming across big breaking news items related to crime somewhere around the world. Crime could be of any type and could cut across geographical and time boundaries. Additionally, there are many TV channels which have special programs and soap operas entirely devoted to crime. While this may be very good in terms of increasing the TRP ratings of these channels, it is not very sure as to how much benefit will it do to society as a whole. In fact many such serials make people believe that committing and getting away with a crime is very easy and many a times it turns their belief into actions.

There have many reported instances of criminal activities which have been influenced based on some soap opera related to crime. As a responsible news reporting and entertainment channel, the job does not end just by reporting news. The reporting of such news must be factual and the desire to over sensationalize news reporting should be avoided at all costs. But it seldom happens that way and unfortunately news and entertainment channels are out there to make money out of such reporting. Crime and media always go together in this world, where there is crime media follows.

News event reporting in the good old days were more about the actual content rather than the way it was presented. Except for a few countries where democracy had taken roots, news reporting was totally under state control and therefore was subject to lot of bureaucracy and red tape. There were lot of ifs and buts and dos and don’ts covering news reporting. Even in democratic countries the style and content of reporting has gone through a sea change when compared to even a few year before. So it is worth knowing what type of news events captivates the audience. This again is a difficult question to answer and depends on the likes and tastes of individuals.

All news events while having the potential to be newsworthy, there are some events which specifically target a group of audience. For example, event if the film and entertainment industry may not be of much interest to a person who is a serious kind of a person as he would be more comfortable with news events concerning national politics, world politics, war, etc.

However, in general when it comes to viewer ship of a news event, generally it has been found that national and regional news are the ones which are mostly viewed by the audience. Again under this, if the news pertains to fashion, films and entertainment, this has a much bigger acceptance in terms of viewer ship, especially amongst the younger generation.
Sporting events occupy the pride of place amongst all viewers irrespective of religion, country, caste or creed. The biggest example of a huge viewer ship is without doubt the world cup football. It cuts across all geographical, age and other boundaries. Even political and other serious events can have a good viewer ship if it properly presented and is contemporary in terms of look, feel and content. Discussions forums like “Hard Talk” and other such events have a lot of acceptance even amongst the youth, who watch with avid interest and involvement.

Children are representatives of the next generation. They represent the society. The character and personality of a person form in his childhood. Family, society, friends and social back ground influences his character formation. Children are considered to be innocent, playful and adorable. They represent the transparency of life. But all these concepts seem to change gradually. Studies reveal that there is an increase in the criminal tendency in children. What can be the possible reasons for this? Definitely it is related to the changes in the social atmosphere. Let’s start from family. Family should be like a fertilized soil.

It should be the right place for the growth of children. Usually children learn from parents. You can observe small babies and children trying to imitate their father and mother. So parents should make sure that they are a good model for their child. The increase in the number of broken family itself is not a good trend. It is found that criminal tendency is higher among the children of divorced parents. House hold violence is also a reason for the increasing criminal tendency in children. The general social atmosphere has also changed. Children who had experienced sexual harassment or other such tortures may develop depression and other psychological problems which can develop some criminal tendency in them later.

The media also plays a crucial role in this. Films project the heroism of the hero by portraying him as a good fighter. Children always have a tendency to imitate heroes. Video games also play a role in this. The heroes of the games often handle guns and other explosives. This develops an addiction towards arms and its power. Television channels also telecast such cartoons. Children may also happen to watch the programs having sexual overflow and internet are factors which can influence children. To avoid all these, first of all create a peaceful atmosphere in family. Avoid quarrels in front of your children. Keep an eye in the activities of your child and be a friend to him and also to his friends.

The Boise River is the perfect float trip for outdoor lovers. As you ride down its watery course, you can take in the beautiful sights and various wildlife that inhabit this area. Most vistors who intend to take a float trip down the river get their start at Barber Park. This site is found six miles outside of the downtown area. Here, you can rent inner tubes and rafts for your trip, or you can take your own. There are places where you can air up your inner tubes before the trip. Before you go, plan out where you want to leave from and where you plan to leave your vehicle.

On your trip, you eventually will need to take a break or get a bite to eat. There are four different locations where you can pull in and relax for a time. You will have a warning sign that a stop offlocation is coming up 100 feet before you get to it. The sites includes trash cans, restrooms and places to relax. The restrooms may be portable or permanent, depending on the location.

To get to the river, you can catch a ride at Barber Park and Ann Morrison Park. When you float, you are required by state law to have a life vest on in a raft and those in inner tubes should as well. Glass bottles and alcohol are not allowed on the river, but you can consume alcohol in the park areas. For a quite float, you will want to consider coming out in the morning hours or early in the afternoon. The Boise River offers floaters a relaxing, fun and enjoyable way to take some sun, fish or just to enjoy the water and scenery. This is a great outing for a couple or a group of friends who want to create lasting memories for a lifetime.

The period from 1862 to 1864 saw a rush of prospectors and miners to the area of the Boise Basin, coming to search for gold. This was the largest in the history of the Pacific Northwest area. With the inrush of people searching for wealth, there was also additional problems of crime and conflict with local Native American populations. The United State Army was sent to the region, establishing Fort Boise on the fourth of July, 1863.

When the Army arrived, their first task after establishing the fort was the removal of the Shoshini people from the region. They were moved to Fort Hall in 1867, where a reservation area was established for them. The increasing population and the set up of the fort prompted quick settlement within the area, and Boise was born. In 1864, it was officially named the capitol of Idaho. The Oregon Trail, a major route west, was expanded with roads that led to the Owyhee mining area and into the Boise Basin. This helped to spurn the early growth of the city.

The city also had help growing due to its abundant and successful mining markets and the ready availability of rich farmland that was based in the western part of the area. Mining was the major industry in the region, and the agriculture that supported it helped to make Boise one of the largest cities on the Oregon trail route. Visitors can still visit the original United State Assay Office, which has been declared a National Historic Landmark.

Boise has an early history in the region, making its stamp on the drive west by settlers and gold seekers. Its early expansion and key role in mining, the gold rush and in settlement of the west should not soon be forgotten in the minds of future generations.

During the early part of Boise’s history, the Shoshoni people traveled over a wide expanse of the area when the fur trade was still active in the region. This tribe held a powerful position in the large groupings that the Northern Shoshoni had started to travel in. They were joined in this area by several other tribes, including the Crow and the Blackfoot. Besides dealing in fur trading, these people also rode horses and hunted local buffalo herds for their meat and for their skins. Later, the larger groups that had been traveling together broke into more smaller bands that roamed the region. The Paiute, which were a separate tribe, began to come together with the Shoshoni people as time went on. They were in all actuality tied to the Shoshoni people, and eventually blended with them.

The Shoshoni people often mixed themselves with the Paiutes that inhabited the northern part of the state. The Shoshoni introduced the horse to this tribe, who soon began to hunt the buffalo with them. Families of Shoshoni bands would often switch over to a Paiute group without any problems. This transitioning of the two tribes together became more common in the 1860s, when white settlers began to pour into the area. The gold rush and the increase in the numbers of white settlers finally displaced the Shoshoni tribe and they were forced to a reservation near Fort Hall. Despite their displacement to a reservation and loss of territory due to white settlement, the Shoshoni tribe has managed to retain its identity into the present time. Their important position in the area’s early history in regards to the fur trade in dealings with other tribes are a testament to the powerful culture that they had at the time. The sad loss of their native lands has not stopped them from preserving their culture and traditions in today’s society.

With the rush for gold during the 1860s, numerous groups came west into northern Idaho in order to find wealth and adventure. Starting in 1864, groups of Chinese wanted to take part in the mining in the area began to come as well. There was resistance from many whites to letting Chinese come into the country, they continued to travel to the region seeking their own fortune. By 1870, the Chinese had become the largest percentage of the population of miners in the area.

Though they came with the same goals as white miners, the Chinese were set apart from the rest for various reasons. Two major reasons were the differences in native spoken languages and in cultural practices between the two. The Chinese faced a major language barrier with their English-speaking counterparts. White miners would limit Chinese access to the mining camps as long as they could earn better pay and work to get a higher profit. This caused the Chinese to have to rely more heavily on hand labor, which was done at level that their white counterparts could not easily afford to do. They worked for lower wages, hoping to put back enough to support family members still remaining in China and to have money when they retired.

This also caused the Chinese to be in places that many whites did not want to go, such as areas that were boulder ridden or that were a fair distance from a source of water. White miners relied on powered machinery to the greater part of the work in removing boulders, where as Chinese miners would stack them by hand in neat rows. There were often willing to work in mining areas that other whites had abandoned. Now, historians can easily distinguish the mining sites that were maintained by a Chinese miner versus that of a white miner.

The Boise Valley saw a period of agricultural change during the period from the early part of the 1920′s into the 1940′s. During this time, the types of crops that were grown in this region slowly changed. The earlier crops that had been grown included such ones as grains, fruit, potatoes, clover hay and alfalfa. By 1920, the farming acreage in the area was a total of 100,000 that were being farmed, but the cost per acre had dropped to $46.20. Apple and potato crops kept their value well, whereas other crops had a lower return for farmers.

1921 saw the introduction of commercialized farming, which was done with lettuce. The dairy industry in this area was also expanding, as was the farmer use of winter range. One farmer during this period stopped growing alfalfa and switch to potatoes. He was able to earn $705 per acre on the new crop. In 1923, corn took the number three place of the largest crops are grown. One reason that the dairy industry at this time showed an expansion was that its products could be shipped to consumers at a much lower price than grain crops could be. This proved to be true as 1929 saw a 20% increase in the number of dairy cattle that were being raised in the area.

The Great Depression had an impact on the cost of acreage in 1931, and the cost went from $26.34 to a low of $15.34. 1932 saw the value drop even lower to $10.86. Other crops dropped in price as well, causing economic hardship in the area. Once World War II began, the demand for crops and the push for the country to enter the war effort gave the area a much needed turnaround. Throughout its history, the Boise area has been home to a rich agricultural history and tradition.

The Boise River lies only an hour away from Boise, Idaho and offers fishermen of all ages a challenge and some of the best fishing around. The river has a wide variety of fishing opportunities on each of its three forks that break off to the south, north and down the middle. For fly fishing, there is no better spot, and you can cast wide and clear without being crowded out by other anglers. The most visited fork is the southern one, which is full of the bigger fish. On this bend, anglers are limited to using only smaller hooks and fake lures.

The early spring and summer are the best times to get your drift boat out on the water, as the level of the water is high enough to accommodate the boat. Throughout the year, the area is full of insects that the fish love to feed and grow on, which helps to increase your chances of netting a prize winning trout. If you love to cast your line into a quiet stream, you will want to head over to the North Fork. This area is home to a number of smaller tributaries that make for excellent fishing. The Middle Fork takes a combination of the previous two, and a good fly will help you hook the trout you want.

If you are not from the area, then your best bet is to hire a guide to take you out for the day. These individuals are experts at knowing the right spots to go at the right times of day in order to catch a nice trout. The cost that you pay will be well worth the investment when you hook the trout of your dreams on your line. That is what makes the Boise River the perfect place to fish.

In 1943, the Boise River Valley was the scene of a terrible flood that occurred when Arrowrock Reservoir spilled over its walls and sent water plummeting into the valley and floodplain below. With the construction of the reservoir, residents became comfortable with the thought that flooding was no longer an eminent threat and began to construct their homes directly in the area of the floodplain. It was a convenient place to live, with close access to food and water, along with road access as well.

Though the water spilled over the top of the reservoir, the structure was able to hold its own against the greater majority of the water. Levees that had been constructed around the area were heavily damaged. The area was determined to keep the river under the watchful eye of the inhabitants and to prevent further flooding from occuring again. In 1955, the Lucky Peak Dam and Reservoir was built to attempt to bring the river under complete control. The United States Army Corps of Engineers did a study on the area and the four tributaries that flowed off of the Boise River. They found that certain elements actually helped to make the situation worse for residents in the area.

The last few years before the flood had been drier ones, and people had become accustomed to living and farming next to the river. They became desensitized to the danger that was present and instead focused on controlling the river for their needs. When the flood occurred, several businesses, industrial structures and homes were given heavy damage from the oncoming floodwaters. Snow melting from an early spring caused the water level to rise. Residents were now reminded of the fact that they needed to not only use the river wisely but to respect its power as well.

Boise, Idaho saw some of the action in the early years of aviation history. One major individual who decided to come to Boise was Charles Lindberg, who landed there in 1927. He assessed some of the problems that he experienced while there, and made the recommendation to remove trees that were near the site and runway area. An incident where a plane could not get off the runway fast enough and struck some of the trees prompted their removal. It also urged the airport owners that the runway needed to be lengthened.

An accident that occurred when a plane flew off the runway and struck several trees finally prompted their quick removal. Two companies announced their plans to use the airport, starting in 1929, as part of their air mail route. These two companies were Varney Air Mail and Mamer Flying Service. With this new influx of business, the need for improvements to the airport soon became an important priority to the city. There was also the possibility brewing of passenger flights nationwide.

Another important event occurred on April 19th, 1911, when the first plane took flight over Boise. It was flown by Walter Brookins, who was in charge of the Wright Brothers’ Flying School. The area was soon home to a variety of flying exhibitions, which quickly became popular with local residents. Planes flown during these events did daring loops and tricks that dazzled watchers on the ground. They also did mock air battles or walked along the plane’s wings. Another popular attraction to visit Boise was the Victory Flying Circus in 1919. This group helped to sell war bonds to the public, and was composed of prior fighter pilots. 50,000 people came to watch them perform.

Throughout its history, Boise was home to an amazing number of aviation events that give it an honored place in history.

The Boise Assay Office National Historic Landmark honors the time during 1860 when gold was discovered on the Clearwater River. With its discovery, a flood of miners from all over poured into the area, searching for the wealth of a lifetime. 1861-1862 brought the area even more gold when miners discovered more in the Salmon River and in the Boise Basin. For the period between 1861 to 1866, the gold pulled out of the area reached a total value of $52 million. The area was in need of an assay office, as the cost to send the gold to United States Mint in San Fransisco was expensive. Their wish was granted in 1869 when Congress set aside $75,000 to build one in Boise.

The structure is still standing today, and is one of the most important historical buildings in the area. It is located on Main Street between Second and Third streets, where it is part of the first section of the 1863 townsite where Boise was setup. The building was first started in 1870, and it took a year of work to complete it. It was made of sandstone quarried in the area and has walls that are two feet thick. The equipment for the office finally came in around 1872 and work began.

There were new discoveries in the area of lead silver, which brought greater wealth into the region. By 1895, the office had taken in deposits of to well over a million dollars. In 1933, the office became home to the United States Forest Service, with the main office for the Boise National Forest. Though some minor improvements were made to the building which were made in 1933, the building still retains the most of its original appearance. The building was given status as National Historic Landmark in 1965.

The disappearance of 33-year-old Jeramy Burt in 2007 left his family startled and authorities puzzled. Recently, the Investigation Discovery Channel featured his story on television, giving it a nationwide stage in the proper attention that it deserves. The show, Disappeared, gives the family hope that someone will come forward with information regarding his present whereabouts or what happened to him. The case has remained open since 2007, and authorities have not ruled out foul play in the case. You can see the show on Mondays on the Discovery Channel at 8 PM and 10 PM, along with Sunday afternoon.

Burt mysteriously disappeared in February of 2007 into thin air, leaving behind his four-year-old daughter, family and his home. His father, Van Burt, was one of the last few people to see him before he vanished. He stated that he believes in his heart that his son is no longer alive. The only clue that authorities have is the burned-out wreckage of his car that was found in the Idaho southern desert. It was discovered several months after he vanished. There was no other sign of items or clues to be helpful to authorities at the scene of the car. There were also no signs that anyone had been in the vehicle. There have been no suspects named and any new developments have not been made recently.

According to his family, Jeramy was not the type to walk away from his family, especially his daughter, whom he loved deeply. He was a dedicated father and his family states that he would never leave his family and disappear. Authorities are urging anyone with information, regardless of how small it may be, to contact them with any information that they may have. It may be one thing that helps to bring Jeramy home to his family.

The northern side of Boise, Idaho was the scene of a spree of vandalism and graffiti recently over the weekend. The graffiti was done on various places around the area, including on vehicles, fences and signs. Two individuals were arrested for the vanalism: 20 year old Kevin Travis and 19 year old Abigail Robinson. Residents had been filing complaints with the police regarding the graffiti, which kept popping up. Some complaints were filed from residents living on 32nd Street, Taft and Good Street as well.

Police stepped up patrols, sending units and officers where were undercover into the area to find the suspects. They even walked various streets, trying to find a clue to the perpetrators of the graffiti damage. They soon got the clue they needed when a pair, man and woman, were spotted walking and carrying spray paint cans. Witnesses in the area said that they two had been damaging various vehicles and signs, along with fencing.

Sunset Park, a popular gathering area in the neighborhood, is often full of daily users. People love to bring dogs for walks there and spend times with their families. One resident was upset that such a pleasent area was being disrupted at night by this kind of activity, saying that it scared her. Another fence was damaged as well on 32nd and Good Street, right on the corner. In total, the man and woman caused damage to ten different items of property. Their spree did not reward them in the end. When arrested, the great amount of damage they caused and the high number of victims to the graffiti has raised their charge to a felony.

The two will appear in court in the future to answer to the felony charges. The neighborhood has also begun to clean up and deal with the resulting damage from their weekend of graffiti.

The recent passage of plans to go forward with the JUMP, or Jack’s Urban Meeting Place, Project spurned the resignation of two of the committee members. The Boise Planning and Zoning Commission met Monday evening and voted to get things going despite a previous 4 to 3 decision by the Design Review Committee to deny it. The Simplot Family Foundation is backing the proposed JUMP program, which has a $70 million price tag. Elizabeth Wolf and Gregory Urin left their positions, which were on a volunteer basis.

There is also some local opposition to the project. Many feel the project could be handled in a better fashion, while others state that the architectural design of the project is out of character with Boise’s look. The two members that resigned felt frustrated with the emotional nature of discussions during the review committee’s meettings and felt that their efforts were not of value in the project anymore. Urin stated that he felt there was no way for them to have a real discussion on the project. The city said that their efforts were valued, and are now working to fill the two new vacant positions on the committee.

The review committee’s decision was reversed when the zoning commission felt that they had stepped out of their boundaries in rejecting the proposal altogether. Some are very supportive and excited about the project, commenting that something new is not always accepted at first. The structure will encompass a total of 7.5 acres, with a park area that is fully landscaped, an outdoor amphitheatre that will be useful for weddings and movies. It is designed to cover up an area that many have considered an eyesore to the city for some time. It will also contain a multistory area that can be used for shops, offices and various businesses. Regardless of the varying opinions, the project now looks to be going forward.

The event occurred when there was a possible bomb threat brought against the school. The threat was found written on a tissue paper sheet in one of the school’s bathrooms. The Ada County Sheriff’s Department, even though they felt it was not a solid threat, when through a thorough examination of the threat. They conducted interviews with various students, brought a bomb-sniffing dog into the school to investigate and had the message analyzed by a handwriting expert.

They also investigated common sense spots where a possible bomb would be stashed, such as trash cans and gathering areas within the school. They also brought in investigative resources from other agencies in the area to help with the investigation. They surmised that the school and safe for all inside. The department said it treats every bomb threat seriously no matter how unlikely the threat may seem. Fifty students were said to have left the campus before school was over or didn’t come at all because of the threat.

Parents were upset not at how the investigation was conducted, but because they were not contacted by authorities about the threat. One stated that he doesn’t care how small the threat may be, he wants to know about what is happening. This same parent pulled his children out of school that day due to hearing about the possible bomb scare. The police stated that they had thoroughly checked the premises and ascertained that it was clear, and did not feel it necessary to cause anyone undo worry or panic. They were also trying to prevent a flood of people coming to the school to check on things as well.

Tamarack Resort recently made skiers and snowboarders happy by opening its doors to them. The resort has spent the last year closed and idle, leaving a hole in the hearts of winter outdoor sports enthusiasts. This Monday it opened its doors again as snow covered the area and approximately 900 individuals headed in and then out to the slopes. The general manager of winter time operations at the resort, Tim Flaherty, told reporters that working to reopen Tamarack took an extended process and hard work.

The resort property has been in the middle of bankruptcy proceedings in the courts as the financial tangle was being worked out. The homeowner association of Tamarack was determined to get it up and going again, so they pooled $80,000 of members’ dues to get it open again for the ski season. The group worked together to find a quick solution and succeeded, bringing people back to Tamarack for winter fun in the outdoors. The association has also offered the Idaho Land Board a $1.5 million dollar plan for the business, also showing it to the Idaho bankruptcy court and Credit Suisse. The last group also offers contributions to the association.

The resort has sold a total of 700 season passes up to this point, and are confident as more are being purchased. Many feel this is a great sign for the economy of the area, and the local homeowners are sure that someone will purchase the property before the next year. The resort also provides employment for local area residents, as it has 100 staff members needed in order to run it. Its reopening has also brought hope back to the area, as people see it as a sign of better times to come. This is crucial as the area has struggled some in the present economy.

Fort Boise has stood as an important part of the area’s history, from its earliest days when French explorers were coming through the area in the early 1800′s. The Hudson Bay Company was an early entity that had business interests in the area of the Boise River, specifically in reference to the fur trade and other prospects that the area held. In 1834, they set up a fur trading outpost here, right near the river’s mouth. The oupost, by 1836, has gained the name of Fort Boise. Francois Payette managed the outpost up to 1844.

The fort remained an important post in this area, even after the fur trade dropped off. It was a friendly and comfortable place for visitors in the area to stop, as it was the last one on the route for many years. The first structure that was erected was taken out by a flood in 1853, which was prone to water damage from being constructed of adobe. The fort was closed for a period after an attack in 1854 led to the slaughter of 21 immigrants that had come into the area by Snake River Indians. The Hudson Bay Comapany closed it then.

The fort was renewed in 1863 by the Oregon Cavalry, which built a new post to house soldiers being sent west to provide protection for miners and settlers that were coming into the region. The new location was set up at Moore’s Creek and was commanded by Major Pinkney Lugenbeel. Throughout its long history, the fort served as a wayside rest point for early settlers and later as a haven of protection in the wild west. It housed the soldiers necessary to patrol the wild regions and protect settlers and miners from tribes native to the area. It was also a place of constant war, as troops battled tribes as the west began to close.
